Desktop Tidy

How clean is your desktop? Mine’s pretty tidy, but then my menus don’t suffer from clutter either.

Messy Computer Desktop

From observations (laughing at the state of friends computers when I have to fix them) most people care as much about putting files away in the virtual world as they do in the real one. As a start I’d recommend learning how to create new folders on the ‘All Programs’ menu of any Windows machine (‘Utilities’ and ‘Internet’ are good choices). Then do the same for your documents folder. (Not with folders called utilities, you fool, with folders where you can put your pictures etc.)

When all that is done try putting those files and shortcuts littering your desktop into those newly created folders. And, you know what, unlike the real world, when you open one of those files from within its new home you don’t need to put it back there again, the computer does that for you. Clever, eh?
