The Slow Tomato Race – Up Close and Personal

This week’s pictures should be a lot clearer as I’ve found the ‘close-up’ setting

Tomatoes - Week Ten

Tomatoes - Week Ten

on the camera. Hopefully you can now see the five fruit. Not only does this mean that I’m halfway there, but I also have another one forming. I’m optimistic.

That was the good news. The bad news was, that while cutting my hedge I happened to look into my neighbour’s garden and saw the tomato plants he has been growing. They look far more like the ones I remember from the greenhouse my father had. Mine, by comparison, appears to have had its growth stunted, causing it to look like a bonsai. I suspect this is due to the fitful nature of my watering and I don’t think it’s something I will be able to correct. I’ll try to call around to get some pictures of the plant next door so you can see what I mean.
